ASHES AND DIAMONDS
The photographs of Ashes and Diamonds -series were captured between 2003 and 2005 while I made some backpacker trips to Poland, Czech Republic and Baltic countries with my then girlfriend. We had a tent, cameras and not much money. I was studying philosophy and became later a teacher - though I never abandoned my commitment to photography. She went to art college and became a professional photographer.
At the end of my studies I organised an exhibition at a local cultural venue and bar in Jyväskylä, Finland, showcasing my work I had accumulated during my trips. The title of my exhibition was Ashes and Diamonds, homage to Andrzei Wajda’s movie trilogy with the same name.
Pictures were shot on film and printed in darkroom - the image samples on this site are outdated low resolution film scans showing more grain than actual darkroom prints. My plan is to go through my archive and digitize all my film photographs at some point.
